The msi is provided for easy distribution of TSVN to multiple
computers (see mailing list archive).

You can edit msi files using the Orca editor (see
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;255905 )

I have heard of a tool named msicab.exe which you can use to extract
files from msis (which should be part of the msi sdk).
