I wonder if we could quickly get the UUID of the top level of the commit
first. In 99% of cases I would think that this would get the right history
for the commit, as I suspect that *most* people commit from a level in a
repository where there's only one UUID below them anyway.

It is (was) a great aspect of the current design of that dialog that you
can edit the message while the status build is running, and this history is
a really important part of that.
