How about just using a vertical bar instead of an exclamation point.
After all, the 'warning' traffic sign also just uses a vertical bar...

As for the coloring scheme: inability to distinguish between red and
green is the most common among color blind. Therefor if we use these
two colors, a shape distinction between them would be best.
Suggestion:

green circle for 'in SVN and up to date'

yellow triangle for 'in SVN and locally modified'

red triangle for 'in SVN and conflicted'

I know this may cause some confusion for current users (as they are
accustomed to the current red circle to indicate local mods, and
yellow for conflicts). However, conflicts are more serious than local
modifications, so that IMHO justifies the use of red in the former
case.
Personally, I would switch now to green = OK, yellow = Local mod and
Red = conflict and hope that we all get used to it quickly :)

Just my .02
