Well, I wouldn't say 'fast PCs'. Even a fast PC will be _very_ slow doing
that if it's connected to a fileserver. The problem isn't the PC itself, but
that for a refresh of all the icons the server is contacted. So if you're
connected to a fileserver (e.g. you've mounted a share) _then_ it will be
incredibly slow, otherwise even on a slow PC it's fast enough.
