Ok, first a few things about how to write bug reports:
"does not work" is not a bug report. My usual answer to such reports: so what?
Seriously:
- what did you do
- what did you expect to happen
- what happened instead
is the only rule for bugreports you should follow.

So:
- what did you do:
   - what's the URL you entered in the switch/merge dialog
   - what's the URL of your working copy
   - what's the revision numbers you've entered
- what did you expect to happen
   - merging a branch back to trunk? Switching the wc to another branch? ???
- what happened instead
   - did the progress dialog show up?
   - what was the _exact_ error message?

Did you use the command line client too? And it didn't work there either?
Then I guess you've entered the URL wrong: spaces must be escaped!
