Someone on the WiX list made an off-hand comment that it was possible,
and I had the same reaction as you ("Wow, I didn't know you could do
that!").

That's what we were going to do also, but it didn't work. Windows
installer only looks at the first 3 parts of the version number and
ignores the fourth parth so 1.1.0.1842 = 1.1.0.1843 in the world of MSI :(
