That shouldn't be the reason for a crash.

Please try the following:
open up the registry editor and add the DWORD key
HKCU\Software\TortoiseSVN\OwnerdrawnMenus
and set this to a value of 2. This will prevent TSVN from showing icons
in the context menu. If then it doesn't crash, then I know that the
crash happens somewhere in the code which draws/handles the icons. If it
still crashes, well...

- make sure that you've set the TSVN language to english and that you're
not using any language pack.
- I've just added a lot of more checks for invalid pointers to the shell
extension. So if you could try the next nightly build and check again if
it still crashes. The nightly builds are available from
http://mapcar.org/tsvn-snapshots/
