Personally - I read my mail in "Andale Mono" a fixed pitch font designed
for coding (ie the characters "iIl1|" all look different at any
resolution. But Courier New or any other monospaced font works
reasonably well for e-mail. Andale Mono used to be free, but I can't
find a site which has it available for free download anymore.

You have to bear in mind that *MOST* people do not read their mail with
a fixed pitch font - so the sig will look wrong.
