True, point well taken, but I'm not going to go through that trouble
until I confirm that it's actually the virus scanner that's causing this
problem. Easiest path to that is to disable it. I'll need a password
from the benevolent fellows across the street to do either.

Will report back as soon as I get through the red tape. :-\
