Hi there, (browsed for this topic, couldn't find similar post,
but sorry if I missed it)
I've been enjoying Subversion and TortoiseSVN now for about a
month, and a joy it is! Both tools are excellent, and although
I haven't used CVS before (my company is a VSS-user) it was a
smooth introduction. The quality of the documentation (both on
Subversion and TortoiseSVN) helped significantly.
There is one thing that bothered me, hence this mail. I noticed
that many actions via the TortoiseSVN UI are made of two steps
(which is good):
1) list the things that will be done (like commit) in full detail
with possibilities to 'drill down' the changes
2) after confirmation: do it.
The UI for "revert" is different, though it consist of two steps:
a) it asks whether you are sure to undo *all* the changes
b) after confirmation: do it.
The crux of the matter is that at (a) it does not present a list
of things that will be reverted. As a result, I'm always wondering:
"does it revent only the file(s) I selected, or does it revert
all modified files?" (because of the warning that *all* changes
will be undone). So, I cancel the action, double (or triple) check
the selection of files that I want to revert, and do it again.
(And even then I'm still checking whether the result was what I
expected :-)
So, my request: wouldn't it be better if before reverting, a
list of components (just like for commit c.s.) that will be
reverted will be shown, so that the confirmation will be clear
on its impact? This will also be more consistent with other user
interactions in TortoiseSVN.
OK, that's all. Kind regards,
Jochem.
