I do not agree that you should EVER disable/ghost a button. If you want
to tell the user something is wrong, then you should explicity show them
a message dialog after they have clicked the button. Not just randomly
disable parts of the user interface. The OK button should work, but when
they click on it, they should receive a popup error (without the
original dialog going away) which explains that they need to enter a log
message.
Think of it in the same way as the windows password change dialog
(accessed from the Ctrl-alt-del screen in Win2k). It does not simply
disable the OK button until you've entered the old and new passwords
correctly - it shows you in a message box after clicking the OK button
if something is wrong.
