It's not a big deal. We produce equipment for powder coating. The high
voltage guns are used to charge the powder electrically so that it
sticks to the piece which gets coated. The voltage is between 20 and
100kV, but usually it's not dangerous at all because the current is
limited to only 120 microamps.
What happened then was that our new device got some new front panels,
and those panels were faulty because they aren't isolating the electric
current - so they got electrically charged (really strong!). And you
know what happens if something gets charged: it suddenly unloads with a
big, bright flash. Yup, such a flash made my PC reset, but it never came
back because the harddrive didn't survive that flash - even though it
happened in the isolated room next door.
But good thing is that I now have special protecting circuits for my PC
so that shouldn't happen ever again. And we now have some very
interesting looking circuit boards of our devices with melted
condensators and chips on it ;)
