I just found some interesting info in the Eclipse log and have attached the relevant portion of the log file.

The following error appears multiple times, followed by a subsclipse null pointer exception.

!ENTRY org.tigris.subversion.subclipse.core 4 -6 2016-03-24 11:20:10.345
!MESSAGE The SVN synchronization information for 'CustomTags' has become corrupt or does not exist.

Now before we jump to conclusions that there's something wrong with my SVN working copy, let me remind you that it works just fine if my Eclipse project uses a mapped drive which points to the working copy on the network share, so this would seem to indicate that the working copy is fine. It's only when the Eclipse project points directly to the network share (via a UNC pathname) that I have problems.
