I had the same issue with Subversive. I found the solution on a Zend forum:
http://forums.zend.com/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=4284&p=15105 . Basically the
default GTK theme doesn't work with all of the widgets. You just have to
change your GTK theme to one that isn't broken.
