hey Mark,

the thing is that you do get the same behavior if the destination folder exists. Let's say you define the svn:externals property on the dir 'root':

externals/module1 <PATHTOREPOS>/module1

The given dir tree is:

/root/externals

and 'externals' is checked into svn.
Running 'svn up' on my project will checkout the sources as required, but eclipse does not recognize that the folder 'module1' recently created by SVN is versioned and marks it with a questionmark.
