Ok, so there is definitely a bug here, to be reported.
As mentioned before, I'm running CentOS 5.2, x64, along with
Eclipse SDK
and Subclipse 1.4.8, Subversion Client Adapter 1.5.3, and Subversion Native Library Adapter (javaHL) 1.5.6.
I had to build my subversion command line tools from scratch, because CentOS 5.2 does not have a version of Subversion newer than 1.4+, and does not have the JavaHL bindings available from its default repos.
I build Subversion 1.5.6 from source, along with the JavaHL bindings, using Sun's JDK 1.6.12.
I repetitively received the dreaded "JavaHL (JNI) Not Available" from Eclipse.
It turns out, that as long as I left the "Welcome" window open when exiting my workspace, the next time Eclipse loaded it would detect the JavaHL SVN client adapter without a problem.
As soon as I closed the Welcome window/view and exited Eclipse .. the next time I started Eclipse I would be back to "JavaHL (JNI) Not Available".
It doesn't make any sense to me .. I would LOVE it if someone could replicate this, so that I know I'm not going insane.
