Subclipse 1.2.4 is a much better release than 1.0.6. You do not get
prompted for credentials because they have been cached. You need to
clear the cache:

http://subclipse.tigris.org/faq.html#passwords

Subclipse 1.0.6 and 1.2.4 are identical in this regard, including
using identical versions of JavaHL and SVNKit.

The update site includes the 1.2.4 and 1.0.6 releases. If you want to
see the 1.0.6 release there is a checkbox on the update screen that
causes Eclipse to show all available versions. By default, it only
shows the latest version.
