A Subversion client can work with any 1.x server version.

The only reason you should have to update your local project is
because you are hosting it on a different server. If you migrated the
repository such that the Repository UUID is the same, you do not even
need to checkout again. Just open the SVN Repository view,
right-click on repository connection and choose Relocate. Then give
it the new URL.
