[Subclipse-users] RFC: behavior when committing "through" externals

Hi,

I've got a question about subclipse handling externals when it comes to
committing changes.

If I commit on a top level folder and below that folder (maybe deep
inside) externals are defined these externals are committed also.

While this happens transparent to the user it might cause problems:
- the user doesn't know that he commits to an external repository or
path if he changes the content of a folder fetched through an external.

- If the external was specified with a -r option and someone else checks
out the tree he won't get the changes someone committed

In my opinion the user should be notified that he's committing to an
external.
I think TortoiseSVN ignores (or ignored - it's been some time since I
used it) the externals and you have to explicitly commit them "by hand".
An Option "Also try to commit externals when committing" in the
Subclipse Preferences (default off maybe) would help here....

Is this possible? If yes I'd like to submit it as an improvement.

Reinhard
