[Subclipse-users] performance problems and "Team / Disconnect" feature

I am running into big performance problems with eclipse 3.2 + subclipse
1.1.8 - this has been the case since "forever" I think with subclipse
when working on very large WCs.
In this case, I have to deal with a 1GB working copy with multiple
externals configured - in total 81K files and directories (including the
.svn stuff).

What happens is that when I open the project, eclipse spends forever
trying to do the initial build - I suspect that since 1.1.8 it also
tries to upgrade the WC to format=8. Eventually I have to kill it...

I tried to "disable" subclipse, but this is a plugin setting, not a
project or workspace setting, and I have many other projects for which I
want to use subclipse.

Therefore I would like to be able to "Disconnect" the Team extension on
selected project - which is what I guess the Team / Disconnect should
do. However, this does not survive the closing of the project: as soon
as I reopen this project, it tries to "Share" and goes into its deadly
loop and I have to kill it.

Is there a way to permanently Disconnect a project from SVN (obviously
without removing the .svn folders)? If not, this is a feature that would
help *a lot*
