I am talking about creating a folder named links that is a peer to feature
and plugins. You can then create .link files with contents that point to
other directories. There is more to it than that, and Eclipse can do
something similar the first time you install a plugin by creating a new
install location via the GUI.

I don't really understand what you have done or what is causing your
problem. Clearly it is not a Subclipse issue. I realize that you are
aware of that and are just hoping to get some help. It sounds like you
need to try the Eclipse people now though. Someone might at least
recognize the dialog and know what scenarios it comes up.
