The whole thread was user error:
The instructions after selecting an existing repository or creating a
new one, say to hit the "NEXT" button, and I hit the "FINISH" button--
one shouldn't do that. Maybe the Next button should be the default
button? Or maybe the Finish button should go? It is tricky for a
tired brain...
"If you have already defined the repository location you want to
store this project in, then select it in the list and click Next.
Otherwise, select the Create a new repository location option and
click Next. If you need to create a location then see the section on
creating a new repository location for more information."
