I do not have any specific ideas why this would take this long. The save
of the resource in the editor will trigger us to refresh the status of
that item. Perhaps it takes a long time because of the number of files.

Approximately how many files are in the directory? The size of the files
should not matter, but the number could. If the amount of time is due to
how long it takes svn status to run, there will not be anything we can do
to improve it. However, the next Subversion release, 1.4, includes a
number of optimizations in this area and will likely speed it up somewhat.
