When doing Show History from a local file this feature does not slow
things down. That is why it is not even an option to turn it off. When
Showing History from the Repository perspective this feature can slow
things down as it has to go out to the repository to look for the
property. This is controlled by a setting in Preferences that is off by
default.

History performance is also greatly dependent on the server version. You
want to be on at least 1.2.x on the server for fast history performance.
Ideally 1.3.x.
