This is sort of what the Commit Sets feature in the Synchronize view is
for, although I believe it uses a modal dialog for the comments so you
have some of the same problems. We hope to have some kind of support for
this in the next major release.

Were you aware you can now do compares from the commit dialog? Just
double-click on any of the items in the list.
