The Subversion client is backwards compatible with any 1.0+ server, as
such, so is Subclipse. I know there was a time that JavaSVN wanted you on
at least 1.1, but I do not think that is the case any more.

That being said, the client simply degrades gracefully when talking to an
older server. For example, the log command is much, much faster if
talking to at least a 1.2 server, and of course commands like lock will
fail against servers that did not support the feature.
