What does it mean when the remote file is BASE?

Hi,

When performing a synchronize, if the compare editor shows the remote
file is marked as (BASE), what does it mean? We saw this behavior
when the remote file had been deleted. But in that case sometimes
the remote file is shown as empty. So I don't know which should be
the case.

Thanks!
