When I first tried this, I got a different problem. I would get a message
that there was nothing to commit. If I select just the external, it
worked OK.

I then tried debugging it in my runtime workspace, and there it all just
works fine. I will take a closer look tomorrow. It is possible that it
is related to the other commit fix that I did.
