Compare with... displays error message dialog sometimes

Hello,

By accident I invoked "Compare With | Base revision" on a folder and got an
empty error message dialog (titled "Compare Failed", but with no message
text). First, I thought that this action is not supported for directories,
but then I discovered that it works for some directories and doesn't work
for others (i.e. it doesn't work being invoked on the project node and on
some of the project directories).
