Again problems when deleting directory

Hi,

I deleted a directory containing documentation in the resource
perspective (Java perspective would not let me, because it thought this
was a package). When doing a commit afterwards, I got the following
error: (I included the command, but left out unnecessary files)

commit -m "Finished the abstract part of the logic setup, i.e. all
composed formulae;
Generated new Javadoc for it." -N

     Trying to use an unsupported feature
svn: Cannot non-recursively commit a directory deletion

Why is Subclipse giving me this? I did an update and cleanup before, so
I am at HEAD. What can I do to get this done? I've had similar
problems before, and in the end I ended up deleting all the contents of
a package, then the package itself, then its enclosing package, etc.
Not a very efficient workflow.

TIA, H.
