Sorry you went through so much work. This is simply an incompatability
between Eclipse 3.1 and Subclipse. We were using some internal API's that
changed. This problem first showed up with RC1 and we fixed it
immediately. We just have not done a new release yet.

The problem only effects that one dialog, and you can simply choose to not
specify a root URL.
