Do you mean existing WC, because of course it cannot attach to an existing
repository. We wouldn't be able to develop Subclipse if we could not
attach to the Subclipse repository to get the source.

Generally speaking, if your workspace has a project that is already a
valid svn WC, you can just attach Subclipse to it using Team -> Share
project. It has certainly always worked for me.
