My understanding is that the recommended layout is something like:

/repo/trunk/application
/repo/branch/application_fix_bug_branch
/repo/release/application-1.0
/repo/milestone/application-1.0M5

The milestone part is me having fun.

Where repo is your svn repository and you can have multiple repositories.
