[Subclipse-dev] Authentication, Headless versus GUI based

From: Thomas Hallgren <thomas_at_tada.se>

Hi,
there's something in the way Subclipse performs authentication that
eludes me.

I use the http protocol to access a repository that requires basic
authentication. I can access this repository without problems if use my
Eclipse IDE. I just create a new workspace where I add the repository
location in the Subclipse repository explorer and it works right away. I
don't even need to provide a password as long as I use the same client
machine. Great!

Now I try to the exact same thing from a headless client on the same
machine. It just doesn't work. I get a client exception with the message
"authentication canceled" whenever I try to use the location. I get this
even if I first initialize the workspace by adding the location using my
IDE.

Obviously, my headless configuration is missing something. I've spent
some time trying to debug and figure out what that would be, but I just
don't seem to find it. Any help in this matter would be very appreciated.

Thanks,
Thomas Hallgren
