Yes, if I commit this, I'd change the option name first, per feedback
received. ("--metadata-only" specifically wouldn't be accurate either,
since it does indicate prop mods.)

I've read the rest of your mail, too, but I'll allow time for others to
chime in before I reply to non-trivial points.
