The patch has now been committed, reviewed and
approved for 1.9.x.

Apart from changing the API (renamed error code),
this patch is a mere bugfix. Having an RC3 for that
will extend the soak period for 1.9.0 by at most 1 week.
So, there is no point in holding back rc2, which will
restart a full soak period.
