Yes, it would be nice for users. We've never made these kinds of guarantees
on the client side but I believe there is no technical reason preventing us
from making such guarantees. However, this would cause additional development
overhead (not sure how much exactly) for 1.8 and would definitely contribute
to delaying the release. Also, if we go down this road we must be careful not
to paint ourselves into corners due to compatibility traps on the client side.
What do we do when 1.9 comes around? Will that then support 1.8 WCs?
