Given that the last major blocker/complaint that I was aware of had to
do with the C-L/chunking on the request side and that's been resolved
now in trunk (serf + svn), I think it's possible without any
user-visible regressions for 1.8.

I still track the mailing lists on a regular basis, but I'm tending to
let others run with the serf code. However, if some tricky bit comes
up, I'm happy to dive in as needed to help out.

Re: smart cards - serf and neon both use OpenSSL - so it shouldn't be
terribly hard (ha ha ha) to teach serf if it's missing something
around authentication that neon can do right now. -- justin
