I guess ... in this case it just might be better to make the new format
the default. Assuming the release notes state loudly that scripts that
use mergeinfo must be updated.

Whatever our policy about backwards compatibility, the primary goal
should be to make the script useful for humans. Making output
parsable/useful for scripts is secondary.
