This morning the Subversion committers formally applied for inclusion
in the Apache Incubator[1], the first step toward joining the Apache
Software Foundation. Subversion is a large and growing community, and
this step makes it possible for us to maintain that momentum, while
also accessing the resources that come from being part of the ASF.
CollabNet, as well as other vendors, will continue to sponsor, ship
and support Subversion during and after this process. More
information about the announcement can be found in the press release[2].
The next few months of transition will include discussion and
decisions as we move various pieces of the Subversion project to
Apache infrastructure. We will use the same consenus-based decision
process we've always used to determine what to do with the source
repository, mailing lists, and bug tracker. These discussions will
happen on the development mailing list, and as always, patches are
welcome to help move this work forward.
This announcement comes as the result of several months worth of work
by many members of the Subversion community, CollabNet and the ASF.
Thanks to them for their work, and to each of you for making
Subversion a great project. I feel this is a great step for the
forward movement of Subversion, and I'm excited about our potential
moving forward!
