It looks like there may still be a segfault, though I think it's
related to the mail you sent a couple of days ago. I've done some
digging on that, and it looks like the underlying system
unconditionally requires values that the previous API didn't, so I'm
not entirely sure how to proceed. I want to have a discussion with
Greg about it, to determine out the wrapper can best maintain data
consistency.
