No, it's the correct way; it's just not the kind of bug that's likely to
catch a lot of attention, especially not immediately before the 1.6.0
release. And thanks for providing a repro script.

Could you please file an issue for this, linking to the thread? It would
be best if you could re-attach the repro script in a runnable form (that
helps us later).
