Yes, this is the right way. Thanks for your patience. Sometimes it takes
a bit of prodding to get somebody interested in helping.

I've re-attached these, and also a Unix shell script that runs through
the same scenario. But, on my SuSE system, the script does not reproduce
the problem that you see on Windows.
