This is something we've seen before. It even happened to people trying to sync
our own repository, so Mike cleaned up all the offending log messages. When
this issue has come up in the past, we've taken the general stance that it isn't
our responsibility to work with offending repositories, and that owners of such
repositories should be responsible for cleaning them up. I don't know that I'm
personally completely satisfied with that answer, but I also don't have to
interact with bad repositories, so I don't care too much.

Bottom line: the behavior you describe isn't a bug, but a feature! (for some
definition of "feature")
