I like this suggestion best, but use %u instead of %i, heeding the warning
by danielsh. Though I doubt that anyone will run into a case of more than
2147483647 conflicts any time soon.

...if it took 10ms to count one conflict, the operation itself would take
about 250 days, so we have plenty of time before anyone complains. ;)
