How about changing the URL a bit, so that people using the old repository get
an additional file "README-IMPORTANT-REPOSURL-CHANGED" or something like that
on the next update?

Maybe a rename "trunk" to "trunk-1.5" would suffice ... although that's not
very aesthetic.
