(And Karl had said something as well, and Mark seems to like the
idea, and a few others)

I really REALLY think this is evilevilevil.

As chief users@scplugin respondent, I find myself spending a lot of
time explaining that SCPlugin is 1.4 and so their old 1.3 clients
need to be upgraded. It would get several orders of magnitude harder
to explain if I had to say "1.5 is incompatible with 1.4, unless
maybe you don't use certain features which I now have to explain to
you as well, and no there's no safe way to check whether you have
just in case you're wondering, and yes I'd be happy to explain that
'depth' stuff for you one more time, and yes it's likely that you'll
have to use the command line for certain parts of this process, OK,
well, the command line is this thing that developers use a lot,
there's one hidden away in you OS X system, just launch
Terminal, ...." Feel free to try to winnow out which parts of that
dialog I'm already committed to, and which would be new due to the
maybe-yes-maybe-no WC changes ... it's already way too ugly for
users@ consumption!

If there's some way to make a 1.5 client spot the damage done by the
1.4 client and repair it -- noninteractively! -- I'd be OK with that.
But it appears to me that some information (like, say, the actual
intended depth) is irretrievably lost.
