What's up with the Perl bindings improvements?

Hi all,

Just a quick note -- I realise that a few weeks after the
perl-bindings-improvement branch was created I rather fell off the 'net.
  Chalk that up to working silly hours, long commutes, and no laptop.

That's still going to be the case for the next month or so. After that,
I start a new job at Google. Once I've found my feet there (and
assuming that I don't end up working on the code hosting side of things
anyway) I'll be putting some of the fabled 20% time to use, continuing
the work on cleaning up the bindings.
