So long as the script still says "#!/bin/bash" at the top, this change
is purely cosmetic. The point is to be portable to systems that don't
have bash (or don't have it as /bin/bash), but for that, several other
changes are needed, as I noted (with a patch) in an earlier message in
this thread.

Backporting to 1.4.x would be harmless but also pointless.
