One thing I would really appreciate would be some sort of big-picture
status report from Dan Rall or other folks working on merge tracking
now. For example, if we were to merge today for some reason, what
would I notice as having changed? What new things would I be able to
do? What compatibility/dependency issues are there? While I'm sure
the answers to these questions aren't the same as they may be once the
feature is finished, I'm curious to know what it is now; I haven't
been able to follow the day-by-day nitty-gritty details that have been
hashed out, but a "1000-foot view" might be nice.

(Dan did answer some of these questions on IRC a few days ago, but it
would be nice to have on list.)
